Child learning spelling and reading

Here are some specific areas this therapy supports:

  • Phonemic Awareness – Helping children recognize and manipulate individual sounds in spoken words.

  • Decoding Skills – Teaching children how to break down and sound out unfamiliar words using structured phonics instruction.

  • Spelling & Encoding – Building connections between sounds and letters to improve spelling and written expression.

  • Reading Fluency – Supporting children in reading with appropriate speed, accuracy, and expression.

  • Comprehension – Developing strategies to help children understand and retain what they read.

  • Writing Skills – Strengthening the ability to express thoughts clearly through written language, including sentence structure, grammar, and organization.

  • Confidence in Literacy – Reducing frustration and building confidence by celebrating progress and using tools tailored to the child’s learning style.

  • Multisensory Learning – Engaging visual, auditory, and kinesthetic pathways to help children make meaningful connections with language.

  • Individualized Instruction – Meeting each child where they are, and pacing instruction according to their unique needs and strengths.

Dyslexia therapy sessions are provided one-on-one by a certified speech therapist trained in Orton-Gillingham, and are designed to build foundational literacy skills in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Dyslexia Therapy helps children who struggle with reading, writing, and spelling due to differences in how their brains process written language. At High Hopes, our speech-language pathologist provides individualized therapy using the Orton-Gillingham approach, a structured, multisensory method proven effective for children with dyslexia.
